Power generation

Wind power could become a viable option, perhaps with large scale community windmills, or smaller localised windmills cooperatively owned by a number of homes.

Maybe the economics are better for power generation for individual homes? If we bought large quantities of suitable micro generating systems, it may work out more economical and then each home would become responsible for their own generation and also for managing consumption so that it falls within the generating capacity.

These are some thoughts to get the dialogue going.
